About Me

Who

I’m Jovie Chen — a Chinese-American, bilingual in Mandarin and English, and currently a junior at the University of Oregon. I’m majoring in Business with a concentration in Marketing and working toward a Certificate in Global Business. My interest in global business is deeply tied to my heritage; growing up between cultures sparked a natural curiosity about how people connect, communicate, and create across borders. Whether I’m analyzing international markets or building inclusive, story-driven campaigns, I love bringing cultural insight into everything I do.

On campus, I stay actively involved. I’m the President of the American Marketing Association (AMA), Director of Marketing & Production for the Student Alumni Association (SA), and an Account Manager for Fresh Prints. I’m also a teaching assistant for Cross-Cultural Business Communication. Outside of class, I’m part of CHAARG (a women’s empowerment workout club), Women in Business, and the Warsaw Sports Business Club.

On the side, I run a Depop and Poshmark, blending my love for fashion, sustainability, and creative reuse into curated drops that make secondhand feel personal.

What

Above all, I value creativity, communication, and authenticity. These values guide how I show up — as a student, a marketer, and a person. I’m drawn to work that blends strategy with storytelling, and I thrive in spaces where I can build meaningful, thoughtful experiences. Whether I’m leading a team meeting, planning a campus-wide event, or contributing to product development, I focus on crafting work that is people-centered, collaborative, and rooted in purpose. I love building things that resonate and create a lasting impact.

Where

I grew up in Lake Oswego, Oregon — a suburb just outside of Portland. Growing up in a tight-knit community gave me a strong sense of care and connection, but it also inspired me to explore perspectives beyond my own. What kept me in Oregon for college was the natural beauty of the state; from the coast to the mountains, it’s a place that keeps me grounded and inspired. I’ve worked with startups, student orgs, and national brands, and no matter the setting, I bring a balance of creative vision and strategic thinking to the table.

When

When I’m free, I try to stay active and intentional with my time. I love being outdoors — hiking, skiing, or just going on walks to clear my head. I’ve also been making it a priority to travel while I’m young. In the past year, I’ve visited over 15 countries, and each one has taught me something new about culture, creativity, and myself. At home, I love cooking and trying new recipes. Sharing meals with friends is one of my favorite ways to spend time — it’s a chance to slow down, connect, and turn something simple into something memorable.

Why

What Inspires Me — a glimpse into what keeps me grounded, sparks my creativity, and fuels my sense of exploration.
